HP photosmart 7660 prints images & pdf's but not documents

I have an HP Photosmart 7660 and am running Debian (Sarge)

I've not been able to make my printer work for quite some time now. I had it working once before I reformatted, so I know it is possible to make it work.

Anyways, when I try to print off a text document, it just prints a couple lines of non-sense followed by an endless stream of blank pages until I cancel the print job.

However, I am able to print images from GIMP as well as PDF documents.

What is wrong and how do I fix it?

I have the same printer and it works fine for me. Are you sure you are using the right printer driver?

Are you using the HPLIP driver package?
