HP 1310 printer seems to be buggy.

I am not really sure what the problem is. I hope I can get some insight on the issue. Does anyone else have this problem?

First of all, I am not sure if I posted in the right place.

The problem: I have a HP PSC 1310 usb printer that only prints sometimes. When it does not print, I go to cups I find out that the print job is there. However when looking at the interface, "0 Local printer (Parallel,Serial,USB)" is not selectable. In other words de-selectable or appears to be off line. Sometimes when I turn the printer and computer off and restart printer then computer it works.

I know my usb ports are accessible because I have an ipod and mouse which is are still connected.

Here is info on my printer:

Printer State: idle, accepting jobs, published.

I am using a Notebook Dell Inspiron 5150 Pent 4.

I would gladly provide additional info if you need.

Just a shot in the dark but did you use the HP Device Manager to set up the printer?

I've had better luck with the HP Dev Mgr than the KDE printer setup.

I had setup the printer through cups.

I did not know about the HP device manager.

I will google it.

Do you have any suggestions on usage?

Thanks

It's on your KDE Menu at the lower left on your toolbar.
K Menu > Utilities > HP Device Manager
Hope this helps.

I found it. Now I got an error message when trying to set it up. Im downloading an updated version of hplip and see what happens.

Quote:
error: PPD not file found. An appropriate PPD file could not be found. Please check your HPLIP install, use <i>Select Other...</i>, or download one from linuxprinting.org.

error: Printer queue setup failed. Please restart CUPS and try again.
ppd issue resolved.
Printer queue is still not resolved.

Thanks

Maybe this link will shed some light on it.

https://bugs.launchpad.net/hplip/+bug/162196

I had the same thing happen to me after I did a slackpkg upgrade on 12.0 which upgraded cups & hplip and I was unable to fix it.

Because I needed a printer fast, I reinstalled Slack 12 and blacklisted cups & hplip in slackpkg.

Try this command from Konsole:

LC_ALL=$LANG.UTF8 hp-toolbox

If it works just edit the icon "command" with it.

Yep a shot in the dark
My printer is off line again!

I had to first upgrade python, then reinstall hplip, ran hp-setup.
Still same problem.

Did you try;
LC_ALL=$LANG.UTF8 hp-toolbox
from Konsole?

K Menu > System > Konsole

Yes now I get additional errors!

Quote:
error: PyQt not installed. GUI not available. Exiting.
error: PyQt/Qt initialization error. Please check install of PyQt/Qt and try again.
I downloaded it from source, installed and still get the same error.
There is another bug report I found regarding the same error.

I am not sure what else to do.

Hi okos:
I just did a clean install of 12.1 an added " LC_ALL=$LANG.UTF8 hp-toolbox " to the command section of the H P Dev Mgr icon in the "edit section of the icon" an the toolbox worked perfect.
You said your changed a few things on you system.
If it was me in your situation and because I'm still a Slack nubi I think I would start from scratch with a clean install, or at least try to restore your system to normal by running " slackpkg clean-system ".

Slackpkg is on the DVD in the extra folder.
Install it with eaither pkgtool or installpkg.
After you install it go to /etc/slackpkg and pick a mirror by removing the " # " in front of the mirror you want to use.
The from the root terminal run " slackpkg update " then try " slackpkg clean-system ". I've never used the slackpkg clean-system but from what I understand, it will restore the original packages to whats on the mirror.

Me new 2:
At my rather low skill level when I screw everything up I just start over again with a clean install.
Did that last night, and will probably mess everything up again real soon. I should change my user name to "hose&reinstall" :-)

LOL!
I think it is better to fix and learn. But... at times I have done both. Ive messed things up to where I pretty much had not choice but to reinstall. Other wise, I just try to fix the problem.

In this situation, I am quite clueless.

I'd do the fresh install and just edit the icon.
You'll like HP once you get it going.

Thad be a good user name for me:
clueless

also:
you did add lp & scanner to your user, right?
