Hello, I am buying a dell vostro 1310 ,I am concerned about its linux compatability [will linux detect its drivers etc? and
I would like to know if there might be any sort of problems that I may face if I dual boot it with linux (windwos and linux) If any as I have never bought a laptop this would be my first .
Also i need to know which bluthooth module should I choose? [basically from Linux-compatability point of view]
Dell™ Wireless 360 Bluetooth® Module (Vista)

Dell™ Wireless 360 Bluetooth® Module (XP)
and will this wifi work fine on linux?
Intel® Pro Wireless 3945 (802.11 a/b/g) MiniPCI Card

I just received my Vostro 1310. So far I have tried Debian Lenny Live. The only problem with the wireless card, the Dell xxx...,not Intel.

I used Gparted Live to partition the drive to a 70GB Windows and 160Gb Linux. The only thing that worried me, was the time it took to partition and to reprogram the MBR when you restart windows. i have not downloaded debian completely. I may install it tomorrow night. I can send you my experience if you'd like

Your Bluetooth module depends on what window$ you want to buy, as the dell website will give you an OS compatibility warning. I'm more worried about the web cam and microphone, since I use skype.

If you have not dual booted a computer before, then I highly suggest you let Linux control the boot. Grub or Lilo will automatically install when you install the <your favorite distribution>. Unfortunately M$ lives in a prehistoric world and behave as if they are the only OS.
I've found that Novell's openSUSE website has decent documentation on how to set up a dual boot.

This website was helpful to me.

I've noticed you want the Intel Wireless Card, so maybe you won't need the ndiswrapper.

Have a lot of fun!
