Deleting the file works yet you only need to delete the entry in the file affecting the type of device. For example, I allow auto-mounting of my USB sticks but I do not allow auto-mounting of CDs and DVDs. If I wanted to stop auto-mounting of USB sticks I need only edit that entry rather than delete the entire file.

For sure, deleting the entire file is a handy method of starting from scratch.
