How to configure Samba in Slackware?

I decided to install Samba but now it needs to be configured in order to work. It's the first time I'm using Samba and I'm not sure what to do. I read the Samba documentation (ok, a part of it ..) and an utility for configuring it trough web interface (swat) was mentioned. However http://localhost:901/ doesn't work, probably because there isn't a program, listening on port 901. The /etc/services and the /etc/inetd.conf are ok but swat doesn't work. So can somebody using Samba with Slackware help me with this or give me some instructions on how should I configure Samba for Slack. Thank you in advance.

If your /etc/inetd.conf file has swat listed and uncommented, after editing it so it's listening, did you restart inetd ?

Also samba can be very tedious, I'd suggest you may want to read some more to get a grasp using it.

Yeah swat is in /etc/inetd.conf and I restarted inetd but no, swat doesn't work. That's why I'm asking for help. From any browser it replays: Connection refused or can't connect to localhost.

I just edit smb.conf. If you have not mess with it since installing Slackware its polly in /etc/samba. It was pretty straight forward.

There is also several HowTos on Samba that might help.

You might check out...

Thanks for your replies. I edited manually the /etc/samba/smb.conf-sample file and saved it as smb.conf in same directory. I also found the file /etc/rc.d/rc.samba and maked it executable so the next time I rebooted the machine samba was started automatically.
Now windows machines can see my computer and the shared files.
