where can I get the install disks? apparently my precision needs a very new kernel to function half decent...I'm having serious initrd problems in another thread and thinking maybe on this machine I'd be better off trying testing...can't find the install disks......thanks
ok...thanks for the information. I'll give it a shot on this DELL....the stable is playing nice with my Asus, but this DELL is my work machine and I need a stable 32 bit windows virtual machine in linux, as it's saved my bacon once in a while when some old 16 bit code (vertical market stuff) wouldn't run in Vista 64. I'm probably better off on this machine with Xubuntu 9.04 x64 cause I know it and can keep my virtual machine with usb in hand....I love Slack, so I'm going to try current before I go that route. thanks again.
the DVD iso I downloaded stopped at 1,640,074,480 bytes....that's less than the directory tree said it was...did I get a bad download?
EDIT: Also....will this installer put in a Huge kernel by default? I mean I'll have to (or should) install a generic kernel just like stable? thanks !!

I think so. You should check the md5sum with this
Yes - you can try the generic once again but you may have problems again. I always use the generic but, honestly, it's not strictly necessary.
Thanks....I was getting strange usb behavior in VB with the Huge Kernel...I'll give it my best shot....also, wish I could get a torrent on the -current iso....I hate when a download just cuts off like that

Well you're fortunate there are iso's available for current at all ! Traditionally folk would rsync the entire current tree to a local disk and then create an iso for installation - effectively keeping a copy of the branch and regularly updating it. (I still do anyway - slackpkg or no slackpkg ! Old habits die hard..)
On the original question:
+1 on using rsync with (a custom) rsync script based on Alien Bob's
and the creating ISOs if needed with (a custom) http://slackware.no/makeSlackISOs.sh
