Thanks. Maybe that's in FF 4 but not in 2.0.0.4, unfortunately.
That's not helpful.
Show some efforts on your part, by listing here what all are the options available in FF 2.0, either by typing them or by presenting a screenshot of the "Preferences" menu.

I am using 2.0.0.20 and it is:
Edit -> Preferences -> Advanced -> General -> Check my spelling as I type.
If 2.0.0.4 doesn't have that option, you can download 2.0.0.20 from the Slackware 12.0 patches directory. You can then disable the spelling checker and have a newer version of Firefox also.
Thank you very much for your kind post. Your first suggestion having failed, I then tried the second one. And have now in my power the nine files lying in that directory.
