Question how can i add the kernel source

HI
i need the kernel source but as u all know there is no
/usr/src/linux folder

so how can i add one?
can i download the source from http://www.linuxhq.com

or should i download it from the slackware FTP
ftp.slackware.com/pub/slackware/slackware-current/source/k

then what do i do with it? add it to a CD and install slackware
or can i some how download it and then install it into the distro?

You just need to download the kernel source from your nearest mirror of ftp.kernel.org then un-tar it to /usr/src. Assuming you downloaded the tar.gz files to roots home dir you would use
Code:
cd /usr/src
tar xvfz ~/theFileYouDownloaded.tar.gz
ln -s linux-x.x.xx linux
Replace the X's with the relevant kernel version! The above commands will simply extract the files then make a symlink of /usr/src/linux to the specific version of the code. That make sense?

If you download the latest version you shouldn't need any patches. If you do need to patch the kernel then follow the instructions that came with the patch.

cheers

If you want to add the kernel source as an option in the Slack installer, download the 'k' directory in its entirety from your favourite Slackware mirror and then, using a program that can directly manipulate ISO files (I used WinISO but that costs money, I don't really know of many free alternatives), pop it into the 'slackware' directory on the CD-ROM. Once thats done, burn the whole lot to an 80 minute, 700Mb CD-R and you'll be good to go.

Download the kernel from the Slackware FTP, its prepatched and its in a TGZ file, so just "installpkg filename.tgz" and it will install automatically. Cant be easier
