HL-1440: USB connection lost

I have an HL-1440. I print for awhile then my USB connection is lost. When I reboot it's not detecting the printer.

I don't understand why Linux has such a hard time doing anything. It's really frustrating. Every time I want to acutally get something done, I have to boot into Windows. I am getting really tired of fighting with Linux all the time.

I've run the HL1440 via parallel cable for about a year with no difficulties under CUPS.

Linux doesn't have a hard time. It's only doing what it's told.

What does lsmod say?

Linux doesn't have a hard time?

Video drivers never work right
Printer sharing is impossible
Streaming video is broken
Fonts suck
Programs don't work
Installing programs is impossible
Hardware doesn't work
System locks up
Printing works sometimes
Copy and paste works sometimes
Configuration takes hours, weeks, months
You need a stack of books to administer it
Everything is beta
Software is buggy
Hot plugging doesn't work
No games
And on, and on and on...

After three years in Linux hell, I give up!

Not to start a flamewar, but to counter:

Video drivers never work right
This is the fault of manufacturers -- not Linux
Printer sharing is impossible
I have a corporate office using a multitude of plotters and printers, all shared and managed via CUPS.
Streaming video is broken
Viewing or serving?
Fonts suck
Admittedly so
Programs don't work
Which?
Installing programs is impossible
Installing programs is as easy as three commands.
Hardware doesn't work
Again, when all hardware is built and supported for Windows -- Linux's homebrew drivers are breathtaking.
System locks up
When doing what?
Printing works sometimes
Copy and paste works sometimes
This sounds like configuration errors
Configuration takes hours, weeks, months
You need a stack of books to administer it
You're right. Linux doesn't hold hands.
Everything is beta
Software is buggy
Lol, I don't know how this is a Linux issue. Look at all the money made on MS Support.
Hot plugging doesn't work
Configuration is the job of the administrator, not the OS
No games
Linux isn't a toy.

I'm glad you enjoy it. I am tired of spending half my life administering Linux. When I want something done, I just want plug it in, click it and go outside and play. I have better things to do than babysit my computer all day. I have a computer to save time, not waste time.

Thanks for letting me get this off my chest.

XP just works, I like it, I'm going back to it.
