Help me fix this please.....

I let my friend use my laptop which is running slack, unfortunately I left her logged in as root accidently. She said she only went to a few websites for her email and stuff, but somehow she ended up crashing it good. I rebooted the machine and it was still acting funny, it also started complaining of not enough disk space. Now it is at the point that it wont boot, gets stuck during part of the init sequence.

I booted with a Knoppix cd and found that somehow all 7.5 gigs of my / partition are now full. I looked around but really can't find where it is being used. Any help or direction would be great. Also are there any tools that can show me a breakdown of what directories are using what % of my drive.

Thanks
Mike

My first choice would be the 'du' command for disk usage. Use it at the / directory and pipe it through sort, I would think, though it may have some optional parameters to automatically sort by largest files. I'm not at my linux box (using the wife's XP machine, or I'd try it for you)
