How can i fix this

Hello. I connect to the internet via a cutdown firewalled O/S RedHat

I am running as primaryDNS on an internal RH machine for my hostname. From an internal windows machine I can ping all machines IP addresses but not their names.

I have set up a host file on my linux-firewall in /etc/hosts with all aliases for machine ( www.domainname.com webmail.domainname.com etc) From my windows machine when I ping one of these sometimes it will reply from my LAN IP 192.168.0.* & sometimes it will reply from my actual net IP provided by my ISP. Why Is this ?. I am wanting to be able to ping all machine names & get a reply & also when pinging any subdomains i have setup i want these to ping via their internal IP. Only when i am outside my network do i want these to ping my external IP.

Hope you can Help

Regards

Andrew

Hi,
What is the dns nameserver ip you are using on windows machine? You need to set up dns on one of your Linux box and add this ip to your windows dns settings.
Should Work!

Krishna
