Hard Drive won't mount HDB 20GB Maxtor

I am pretty good at using Linux and I know my around and everything. My 20Gb Maxtor won't mount for some reason though it asks me to specify the file system but it doesn't mount even when I do that. Here is the partition arrangement.

HDA1 - Winblows XP NTFS
HDA2 - Linux Swap
HDA3 - Slack 10 Partition EXT3

HDB - Backup, music and stuff NTFS

I'm thinking it needs ide-scsi emulation but even when I tried to compile that into the kernel I still get the IDE-SCSI module not found any suggestions?? I'd really like to be able to listen to my music under Xmms and Slack 10

What's up buddy?

You shouldn't need scsi emulation at all for an IDE hard drive. And when you compile it into the kernel, of course you'll get the "module not found" error -- there isn't a module to load

Can we see the error you're getting as well as the relevant line from /etc/fstab?
Also cat /proc/filesystems
Which will tell us whether your kernel has support for NTFS.

/dev/hdb? NTFS. hmm..

do a
Code:
fstab -l /dev/hdb
What does that says?

I would think it should be /dev/hdb1.

What mount command are you using, and what is the error message that you are getting when you try to mount the drive? It could be something simple such as the need to create the new mountpoint (ie, "mkdir /mnt/new_mountpoint") -- J.W.

I think you are trying to mount a CD burner/DVD drive instead of the maxtor drive. It should never ask for SCSI emulation for that.

Post the results of
"fdisk -l"
and make us sure you are mounting the correct drive.
