Gnome sound and config

Hello,

I have just installed Dropline Gnome 2.4 on my Slack 9.0 system. All is excelent except everytime I turn the computer on I have to go to the volume control and turn my sound back up. It is quite anoying. In the help it says to to go the preferences and check "Restore saved mixer settings on startup." and it shows a screen shot. This screen shot does not look like my preferences window at all and I cannot find a way to make it restore/save my mixer settings. Did the Gnome people mess up and forget to change the help window to reflect the newer version? How can I save my settings?

Also, KDE seems more configurable. Is this true? Where are all of my eye candy configurations? Can I make windows snap to the edge like in KDE? Can I force taskbar items to not group? Can I change colors of my theme or do I have to actually create a new theme? Also, I tried to install a new theme but it would never show up in the list. I downloaded 3 different themes and none would work. Do I have to install Gnome2.4-only themes?

Thanks for the help.

i believe kde is more easily configurable

Any ideas about the other questions?

Also, ive noticed a couple of things that seem very odd to me. First Epiphany never opens when i try. Second, when I go to the control center then click on desktop preferences, I get an 'application assisiation' window. "There is no action associated with "Desktop Preferences"". Gnome doesnt know how to open my desktop preferences? Any ideas?

Thanks.

Edit: btw, I have installed dropline twice to make sure it wasnt a bad install. I didnt redownload the packages the second time, but the MD5s checkedout.
