Question Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD5 Marvell SE9128 driver Slackware 13.1 x64

Hi guys,

I'm booting with Slackware 13.1 x64
My MB is GA-X58A-UD5 rev. 2 but I cant boot. My HD which is connected to the SATA3 port 6 and 7 is not getting detected. It is a Marvell SE9128

How can I tell the Huge.s to load the drivers of this controller?

Thanks

I'd recommend that you try to go into the BIOS options and set the SATA controller mode to AHCI, that will likely allow it to be detected properly.

Hi H_TeXMeX_H,

The answer is YES, if I change the controller mode to AHCI it got detected without any issue.

I changed in the Integrated Peripherals:

___________FROM: TO:
eSata Ctrl [IDE] --> [AHCI]
GSATA 6_7 Crtl Mode [IDE] --> [AHCI]
SATA3 Firmware selection [OnChip] --> [Auto]

But I'm still wondering how can I make it work if I put all the controllers as default: IDE

Now so far it is working and I can detect the HD.
I guess I got better functions with AHCI than the IDE.

Thanks for you replay!!!.

BTW:

If I remember the controllers I saw when doing lspci on the IDE MODE were:

SATA Controller: JMicron Technology Corp. JMB362/JMB363
And the drive being used was: pata_jmicron but it was never detected correctly by the huge.s kernel in Slackware 13.1 x64

Well, the jmicron sata drivers were never very good. But, if you really want to use them, I recommend downloading the latest version of the kernel, compiling it, making sure to include the jmicron driver as built-in, or you can let it be a module if you use an initrd. Then, maybe it'll work, or maybe the drivers don't support the controller. I always prefer to use ahci, because it gets rid of driver-specific bugs.
