Hello
This is a FYI rather than a question because using vim instead of elvis is an OK workaround for me.
After invoking elvis 2.2.0 in an mrxvt 0.5.4 window, elvis displays "Skipping <n> old session files" then <filename> [NEWFILE] with the cursor on the next line in the column after "]" then ... nothing. Ctrl+C does not kill the command.
elvis is as-installed with no configuration files.
mrxvt was downloaded from
sourceforge and configure was run with options --prefix=/usr --enable-everything --disable-debug followed by make and make install. There are no mrxvt 0.5.4 configuration or menu files (~/.mrxvtrc and ~/.mrxvt/ renamed and no /etc/mrxvt/).
When the terminal type is set to xterm it works OK (but not with xterm-256).
In case it is significant, elvis works under (Xfce) Terminal 0.4.0 but not when run via a Thunar custom action with this command line
Code:
Terminal --working-directory %d --title vi --execute /usr/bin/vi %f
In that case a lot of underline (?) characters flicker by in column 0 and then the cursor flickers across the bottom of the screen a few times then an empty screen is displayed with, for example "Read /home/c/New Empty File, 0 lines, 0 chars" at the bottom. Commands are accepted but the display is garbled.
Best
Charles
