Exclamation Framebuffer device issues after compiling kernel 2.6.3

Hello , i'm trying to migrate to kernel 2.6.3 on a slackware 9.1 with a nvidia riva tnt2 agp card. The compilation was succesfull and after i made the appropiate changes in lilo.conf file (including vga=791) in order to hava a framebuffer console at 1024x768 at 64k colors, i rebooted the machine. Everything seems to be working perfectly except for the framebuffer device which insists on a resolution of 640x480 even if i have appended the kernel command line parameter vga=791.
Anyway these lines that refer to the console and the framebuffer in my .config are : CONFIG_VT=y
________CONFIG_VT_CONSOLE=y
________CONFIG_HW_CONSOLE=y
________CONFIG_AGP=y
________CONFIG_AGP_INTEL=y
________CONFIG_AGP_SIS=y
________CONFIG_DRM=y
________CONFIG_FB=y
________CONFIG_FB_VESA=y
________CONFIG_VIDEO_SELECT=y
________CONFIG_FB_RIVA=y
________CONFIG_VGA_CONSOLE=y
________CONFIG_DUMMY_CONSOLE=y
________CONFIG_FRAMEBUFFER_CONSOLE=y
________CONFIG_PCI_CONSOLE=y
________CONFIG_FONTS=y
________CONFIG_FONT_8x8=y
________CONFIG_FONT_8x16=y
________CONFIG_LOGO=y
________CONFIG_LOGO_LINUX_MONO=y
________CONFIG_LOGO_LINUX_VGA16=y
________CONFIG_LOGO_LINUX_CLUT224=y
Do you have any ideas of how can i change the resolution?

PS: i used the fbset command and some of the resolutions included in the fb.modes file but it didn't work.It resulted in a screen full of garbage
PS2: I also tried to start the x server. All seemed to work perfectly but when i log out from the x server my screen is completely blank ( even though the console works)
Thank you in advance for any advice

I have a GeForce2 MX200, and also had a Radeon 9700Pro... I had the same thing happen after the 2.6.x upgrade... a 640x480 except i can only get 16 colors from the console...

I too would like the 1024x768x32k console... I'd like to know a fix

Yes this happen to me to if I use nvidia driver and framebuffer. Just switch off framebuffer and it will be fine.
And you can use vga=780 (nice small fonts during bootup)
though make sure you enable

Video mode selection support

If not, you will get an unbootable kernel.
the best bad is to use vga=ask the first time booting new kernel.

Exclamation FIXED

It seems tha the CONFIG_RIVA=y caused all the trouble.....
I choosed to build it as a module instead integrating it into the kernel and everything seems to work just fine now(i hope so).
