firefox 2.0.0.1 freezes on certain websites

Hello,
I'm running Slackware 11.0 with dropline gnome and firefox 2.0.0.1 on my laptop (1.5 Ghz centrino, 256 mb ram). Kernel is out-of-the-box 2.6.17.13
Now here's the problem: firefox freezes on certain websites (e.g. youtube.com, deutsche-bank.de) after having loaded parts of it. This only occurs after a while of working on my laptop or when running multiple applications (amarok & gnucash, say). I first thought it was a memory problem, but 'free' says there's over 40mb of unused memory. Also, the problem stays until the next reboot (firefox will freeze on the same site even after restarting X and no other apps running). After a restart everything works fine again, though.
Does anybody have a clue what could be the problem? Any help appreciated!
Cheers,
Chris

PS: if you need more info, just tell me the commands, i will post the output.

Probably it's just Firefox glitch, update it.

I had this after installing Flash 9. As both pages you mentioned use flash, this might be the problem. Only solution in my case was to downgrade to 7 again.

It's the flash 9 plugin ... it crashes FF for me too.

Solution is either downgrade to 7 or try gnash or deal with it

The final release of the Flash 9 plugin has been very stable for me with 2.0.0.1. I can't imagine going to Flash 7. That crashed constantly and ate up all of my CPU.

I have the latest release of Flash 9 and it still crashes. In fact, every version of Flash has had the same issues. (yet another reason to use FOSS)

I'd like to use gnash, but it doesn't play a lot of swfs. And even when it does, things don't always work right.

thanks for pointing me in the right direction! it was indeed flash that caused the problems. i had flash player 7 installed and now upgraded to 9, so far it seems pretty stable.
