I guess the best way to show Eric, and let him know, how much you appreciate his work is to donate to his projects.
On the left, below the grey menu, the sponsoring button: https://alien.slackbook.org/blog/your-feedback/
EDIT: the Steam icon in the Xfce panel doesn't work, but I take this to be a very minor inconvenience. I may just disable it.
Is the icon missing or nothing happens when you click in it? It works here with Slackware64-14.2 Xfce 4.12. Depending on the WM and the color scheme, you might try placing alternative [color] icons in $HOME/.icons/
Code:
ls -l | awk '{print $5, $6, $7, $8, $9}'

Their is a thread on LQ ages ago about this icon issue.
Yes, Eric is a Slackware treasure. I learned most of my shell scripting from his scripts. Long life and prosperity!

Yes, the icon is missing but it works, it's just a red in a white square. I am using a the paper-mono-dark icon theme. Maybe I will have to get an icon and put it in the correct folder for the theme.

Did someone know the "personal circumstances" which made Eric Hameleers to "temporaneous" shutdown his operations?
I feel that is strange for real that a Pillar of Slackware (like you describe him) runs away, and no one comments why? You are still on denial or something?
I wish him all the best, and I really hope that that suddenly silence is not because of a illness or familly related issues.

Since Eric didn't share his reasons on his blog, if someone does know the personal circumstances, they shouldn't be sharing them here.

So, people can't take breaks without questioning their loyalty to a project? And you call taking a break "running away"? Wow! I imagine Eric gave Pat a heads up and if needed, would still provide help to Pat. However, Pat is certainly a capable individual and can certainly handle situations that arise with Slackware.

Maybe try right-clicking and selecting Properties. One can learn a lot including how to assign any icon. In large , everything is "Manual". "Automated" is just a euphemism for "I can let somebody else do the manual bit". This of course begs the follow up question "Should I?" and your experiences with Steam, as well as for your growing away from Ubunto toward Slackware, may be a clue to the best answer.

Anything can happen at any time. Sometimes things happen that are beyond our control and certain operations have to take a backseat. You will find this at some point in your life - it's not an "if", it's a "when". I wish Eric all the best in what he has to contend with presently. He will return though soon enough, I'm sure. His sterling work, his record and dedication to Slackware speak for themselves.

Yes, I'll try to figure this one out. There are a few teething problems left in getting the laptop 100% how I want. At the moment I'd say I was 90% there. The issues I'm having are just minor snags to be honest, I don't know if I would even call them inconveniences now.
Distribution: Slackware64-current with "True Multilib" and KDE4Town.

Where did it say that I ran away?
Some people have the strangest ideas.
If I had not said anything, it would undoubtedly have not been the right thing to do either.
Basically I am taking a break from all the recent assholes here in the forum, trying to re-focus on the good folk.

Eric, hopefully the majority of comments in this thread will attest to how much your work is appreciated. I've heard that sometimes one can all too easily forget the 100 positive comments and just focus on the 1 negative one. But there's something to be said for ratio here.
EDIT: Having said that, I hope you enjoy your forum break.

Enjoy your holiday. We all need one on a regular basis, to shake off the harsh criticisms (of which I too am sometimes guilty). Have fun.
Sometimes one has to take a hiatus. I personally think that post was out of line. <shrug> Eric's blog post was plain as day, clear as a bell, crystal clear, need I say more.
By the way, yep Eric is a super-duper Slackware trooper. The best in the west, east, north and south. Many thanks for all that you do.
