Interview with Eric Hameleers: Why You Should Try Slackware
Here is a fine Linux Magazine interview with Eric Hameleers (aka Alien Bob) following the port of Slackware to x86_64.

Thanks for the information Bruce. An excellent article. Thanks also to Eric for a most informative read and for all the effort put in with Slackware 64. Top notch stuff.
Eric mentions CLFS which I have built along with LFS many times. To anyone who's interested in how distributions are created I would recommend having a look at a version of LFS as an instructional exercise.

Thanks for the link - I really enjoyed the read!
Very interesting on how close we came to not having Slackware64. Eric's misfortune was our gain.
I feel somewhat guilty now about being happy.

A very nice read. Indeed, not to make light of your surgery Eric, but "no pain,no gain" would really seem to apply here. And we slackers have all gained much with this port. Sincere thanks for your work....I am enjoying Slackware64 13 very much....and deciding to keep it pure...no multilib for now.

When you login for the first time after a fresh install you will end in the console instead of X. No assumptions are being made about what your intended use for Slackware is.
|
That's it exactly. The others always put me into X, which I didn't want. Slackware doesn't, and I'm grateful. Good interview.

Hi, Sleepless In Oldham here. Good interview, a nice change from the cliche-ridden brief articles we get from Linux Format about Slackware.

Wait 'til you get to my age, then you can start worrying - not that I ever do.

I enjoyed reading that!
Of course most Slack users are accustomed to seeing your name inside Slackware scripts, ChangeLogs, etc., but the interview has the effect of (how to best describe it?) sort of figuratively ' putting a face to the name.'
Some plain English conversation, as a small & welcome diversion from the usual context where we see your name: "<package-name> upgraded to..", or "Thanks to Eric Hameleers.."
Thanks Eric
Thanks Bruce, for posting the link.

Thanks for the link, nice interview. Some of you earned my respect and sympathy not only for the technical knowledge, but for the true dedication. Slackware64 is all I expected when read the news for the first time. Thanks Eric.
