enable php5 in apache on Slackware 10.2

I am new to Slackware and am having a little trouble enabling php in apache. I have searched on LQ but all I seem to come up with is instructions to add arguments after ./configure. I am using both apache and php directly from Slackware so it is an installpkg install. I have uncommented the php enable line in httpd.conf (as suggested on this site in several places) but this has had not effect. Any ideas? Do I have to go down the ./configure make checkinstall route or am I missing the obvious with my installpkg??
Cheers
edit: typos

Hmmmm. A reboot sorted out my problem after editing the allow php line in httpd.conf. Clearly I don't know how to restart services as easily in Slackware as in Mandriva and Debian. It's what you are used to, I suppose. That won't happen again!!!!

`apachectl restart` or `/etc/rc.d/rc.httpd restart`

(or `apachectl graceful`)

Thanks kodon. I am still foxed by the lack of init.d.
