Dvorak support during installation/shell use

Hey!

I installed Slackware (10.2 CD ISO images through the torrent from slackware.com) on one of my servers a few days ago, and have been very pleased with it in general.

I have one problem though. I use the Dvorak keyboard layout, and when the shell prompt before the installer, or the installer itself, promts for an alternative keyboard layout, the dvorak layout it provides is some kind of an AZERTY layout. The dvorak-ANSI, dvorak-left and dvorak-right layouts it provides work like they should though, but dvorak-ANSI is unusable for a programmer, and even though I know dvorak-left, I'd rather type with two hands as it is possible.

I checked through all the AZERTY layouts to see if there was a mixup, but they all were AZERTY layouts.

The layouts work fine when using KDE and when it takes care of things, like expected. Sadly, this server is for shell use only, and it's a pain to have to write in ANSI-Dvorak.

I'd appreciate it if someone would have a known solution for this, would fix it in the next release, or would provide me with a map file to replace the wrong one.

Thanks!

I don't know anything about dvorak-layouts ... have you read
the documentation in /usr/doc/kbd-1.12/dvorak ?

If all else fails I suggest you copy any of the existing
layouts that you like and manually modify them to match
your needs, or get a known-good keymap from somewhere else
and have your slack load that instead.

Cheers,
Tink

At the console, try:

$ loadkeys dvorak.map

if that works, change your /etc/rc.d/rc.keymap to:

Code:
#!/bin/sh
# Load the keyboard map. More maps are in /usr/share/kbd/keymaps.
if [ -x /usr/bin/loadkeys ]; then
 /usr/bin/loadkeys dvorak.map
fi
For some bizarre reason the installer doesn't load the correct keymap.

Thanks much Toast!

Are the people responsible for the installer aware of this problem?
