DMA Problems

Hello all

When booting into linux I receive a warning that my DMA is not enabled.If I try to enable it, it gives me:
Code:
setting using_dma to 1 (on)
HDIO_SET_DMA failed: Operation not permitted
using_dma = 0 (off)
Although DMA IS enabled in the kernel. I have read this thread about the same problem, but it doesn't help me....

Thanks to all

Are you sure you have the correct DMA chipset compiled?

DMA being disabled by kernel is not by chance (that is what I learned, the hardway).

I had my harddisk DMA disabled by kernel after it complained about checksum error. After much debuging, I concluded it was my PCI-IDE 133 card which was causing the problem.

What I am trying to say is, you may have hardware problem. Some how the Linux kernel is more sensitive or do a good checkup while booting up. Windoze does not catch the problem and went ahead with enabling the DMA(6). As the name suggest, probably it was dozing.

Under 2.4.27 it works perfectly.
@amosf

How can I see if it's the right?

Did you compile yourself or is this with the binary install?

Do you know what chipset your MB has and so forth?

I compiled it myself. I think I managed to see the chipset with the lspci command. Because now I'm going away, tomorrow I will post the result.

Cheers
