Don't see the need for that. I don't use multilib at all, so it would just blow up my installations.

Agree with previous posters. While sbopkg is quick to install from its official website, it wouldn't harm to include it in /extra

Every time I install Slackware I immediately install src2pkg, sbopkg, Libreoffice and Openbox. So, seeing those included by default would make my life easier, but they're all very easy to install by hand as it is.

Other than that I love the default software provided by Slackware.

Or maybe you want something like digikam

so, what are you think? what application you think should come with default slackware? and give some reason...

sbopkg rocks my socks TBH, and I could care less if it comes with the distro or not, default or not.

And then once I have that installed its easy to get 95%+ of what I want/need.

I didn't use SBoPkg until recently because I didn't know it existed -- went years and years without it. SBoPkg seems to be consistent with the design/intent of slackware. It would probably be a useful tool to include in /extra.

Yes it is, but it is also painfully sloooooww. Especially when reading pdf's with graphics in them. And I think it's not really gtk app.

Certainly is not. It's an Lesstif/Motif(R) app.

@op: hard to be realistic with Slack. You can't really expect it to become what it's not. That said, maybe TexLive? I see they put up source packages for download. Is it any easier to package?

Fvwm 2.6 in extra was nice touch in 13.37, btw.

<raises hand> I don't use sbopkg.

I have my own methods of madness in managing my non-slack packages and sbopkg just doesn't do anything for me.

Of the few non-slack packages in install, I can live with them not being default in Slackware. I would like to see rsnapshot added, maybe LibreOffice, Scribus, VLC and supporting libraries of course. I like to see a couple of take aways too, for example seamonkey and it associated lib file.

Check out apvlv. It's a simple pdf reader with vim-like keybindings. Available as a slackbuild, and ships with Salix RatPoison edition.

It would be nice to have Libreoffice and VLC included in the next stable release. I am very happy with the wide variety of software included in Slackware.

+1 for sbopkg in /extra.

A desktop agnostic office solution would be nice, such as libreoffice, although I mainly resort to abiword for writing.

That said, I wouldn't expect Pat to take on the maintainence of loads more packages, as this would probably challenge maintainence of the really important stuff, such as mocp

The solution here might be for us all to start contributing slackbuilds to slackbuilds.org instead.

Agreed. In addition to Libreoffice and VLC, the src2pkg utility would be very welcome.

While it's a great little tool, I don't use src2pkg very often. Having said that, unlike LibreOffice, both sbopkg and src2pkg wouldn't take much space on the installation medium.

If Pat is reading this thread, he might be smiling and thinking: dream on, guys
