It's root and enter if you haven't set anything yet - darkstar is what all Slack's say by default - think it's one of Patrick Volkerding's machines?

-- Well, and yeah - root's password if you have set it.

Sometimes people are just so clear...

Is this during installation? If so, at what point in the installation does it ask you this? Does it tell you to just input "root" and hit enter? Have you already set your root password at this point of the installation? Is at regular boot-up? If so, what comes right before it asks you for this input? Etc. etc. etc.

Your probably on the reboot after installing:

type

root

press enter

type your root password

press enter

then type

startx

(if you want a graphical session)

In future if you want to login as a non-root user then use

adduser

from a shell

Also - if you eventually want a graphical login and a graphical session - change the 3 to a 4 in this line in your /etc/inittab file

id:3:initdefault:

to

id:4:initdefault:

Slackware uses run level 4 for an X mode.
