Configuring Internet.

I've done netconfig, entered in all my data, and yet the internet still does not work. I'am unable to ping anything.

I'am on an ASUS M6Ne, and wondering is there any drivers that I have to install to get my cable to work properly?

Post the resilts of 'ifconfig -a' (no quotes). Also, tell us a bit about your setup: are you on dial-up, DSL, home LAN w/ a router, etc?

DNS ?

hi!

eth0 configuration looks well..

so I suppose it could be a DNS problem..
when you ping hosts do you use their ip or host name?

try ping 216.239.37.99 (google.com). If it work is only a dns problem.
and you will probably need to edit you /etc/resolv.conf file.

Bye

No, it is not a DNS problem. When I ping something, all that happens is I get total packet loss, and with a latency upwards of 50k.

First lets see if it even see your onboard ethernet controller or pci card enter the command as root

Code:
lspci
And please let me know if it sees it, it might just be that you dont have the module loaded

I got it working, thanks to all the people that tried to help me.
However, I do have some more questions:

How do I remove the annoying Toys package, I dont even need it.
How do I remove all of the browsers, expect Mozilla?

As root type:

Code:
removepkg [packagename]
Anything else you need to know? Oh and if you have some more questions about your internet connection check out this url: http://www.faqs.org/docs/linux_network/
That should answer any question you have. Have Fun!

Ok, some more problems. I have lost eth0.
I upgraded to 2.6.10, and lost my internet.

Any solutions?

Type ifconfig again to see if eth0 is listed. If not, post the output of lsmod.

Eek...well, that's a problem!

Do you know the module that your ethernet card used before? If so, try loading it: modprobe <name>

Another option is to try re-running hotplug: /etc/rc.d/rc.hotplug restart

You can also try running netconfig again, but I doubt that'll work.

If none of that works, it's possible that you didn't include that module when you compiled 2.6.10.

Can you still start up your old kernel? Run lsmod from there if so.

Otherwise, post the output of lspci here.
