Hello,
I have a small Slackware web-server which has no compiler, linker etc. installed for security reasons. Now I want to compile Apache and PHP for this system but do not really know how to do it. I tried the
Package building HOWTO at Linuxpackages.net, but the make install root=/work/builds step failed. I now tried to simply build the packages with checkinstall and this works at least partly: for apache I had to create the log-file dir. Now I fear that maybe other things are missing as well, and thus do not really trust that solution....
How do you build packages for another system? How do I ensure that no libraries are missing? Or should I just install the compilers on the web-server, compile everything and then remove the compilers again? (What packages would I need?)
