Im trying to find how to compile software optimized for your processor (amd64), I saw something somewhere but can't find it again. Hopefully trying to get some speed gains in apache and mysql? I know how to compile the kernel to your processor, but this doesn't affect the software u compile after hey? Or is there a global setting u can put to compile everything after to your processor
When you compile software from source, the process usually begins with:
cd to directory containing source code.
./configure to configure (default).
Now, suppose instead you do this:
cd to directory containing source code.
./configure --help to get the configuration options. Study them carefully. There is usually an option you can specify on the command line to compile for a particular architecture (OS, CPU, target directory for libs, execs, etc).
Decide which options to use; write them out on a piece of paper, THEN enter the command ./configure <options> (as you have written them).
Then follow up with the remaining commands to finish the compilation.
