I have an issue with Google Chrome and Chromium. Occasionally, it takes a long time to start Chrome/Chromium, and when it does start, the Google account data is no longer available. Only a reboot fixes it. Does anyone know this issue? It's on Slackware 15
Google Chrome uses your Google account to sync your profile, but Chromium is an open source version of Chrome that is not able to use your Google account. Therefore it sounds strange that you have issues with your Google account when using Chromium.
How did you install your Chrome and your Chromium browsers? What distro are you using? Is it a full installation of official Slackware, or one of the Slackware-derived distros like Zenwalk, Porteus etc?
If I had to guess, I would consider filesystem corruption as the cause for your issues.
Google Chrome uses your Google account to sync your profile, but Chromium is an open source version of Chrome that is not able to use your Google account.
This is incorrect.
Although you don't have to, you can absolutely sync your google profile with chromium

I've been using Slackware 15 for quite some time. I installed Google Chrome using a script from Slackbuilds.org and Chromium from Alien. As I mentioned, the Google account data just disappears. A reboot usually helps, but sometimes I have to re-enter the login even after a reboot. I'm experiencing this issue on my third notebook now. Does anyone else have the same problem?
Just for kicks I'd close the browser and delete all of it's .cache files.
For instance /home/youruser/.cache/chromium
It's always a good idea to delete .cache/chromium now and then. The chromium cache can get huge after awhile and really slow things down. And it's good for tracking you.
Also you might have some really messed up addon installed.
Go to /home/youruser/.config/chromium and make a backup of the directory. And start disabling things or even just delete the .config/chromium directory and start fresh.
it definitely isn't due to an Chrome .cache, as the issue persists even with a freshly installed version of Slackware and Chrome.
Only installed add-ons are ’uBlock Origin, Save to Google Drive and Notifier for Gmail’.
When I install Slackware, I remove many applications that I consider unnecessary. Perhaps I uninstalled an application that shouldn't have been uninstalled, but which one?
As mentioned earlier, the issue doesn't always occur. It can go well for 2 weeks before happening again.
I also don't have any scripts running in the background that could be causing this. Only scripts running in the background are for Slackware updates and Chrome updates, which check for updates twice daily.
And almost all applications run with Firejail, including the browser. Maybe it's also because of Firejail?
I think I've figured out what might be causing it. However, I have no idea how to fix it.
When the lock is closed in Seahorse > Login, Google Chrome starts with paused sync. However, if the lock is open, everything is fine, and I'm connected to Google again.
Why is that? How can I change it so that the keyring always decrypts upon login?
