Can't include video mode selection support into kernel

I'm attempting to install bootsplash and I got everything else changed in xconfig but Video Mode Selection Support doesn't give me the option to include it in the kernel compile. The others have boxes by them indicating their status, but next to VMSS there's nothing, no matter if I press Y or N nothing happens. Anyone know why this is happening and what I can do to fix it? If need be I can attach a screenshot of xconfig.
