I use default Slackware installation for my monitor. The problem is that the highest resolution is 1024x768 which makes the output horrendous. So I edit the xorg.conf and change the driver from "vesa" to "intel".

After changing to "intel", the highest resolution is 1280x800 and the output is beautiful.

But there's a catch, I can't adjust my monitor brightness whereas with "vesa" driver that's not a problem.

Could anyone help me figure out why I can't adjust my monitor brightness? I've read and googled but still couldn't find the solution.

PS: When I switch to console, I can adjust the brightness. It seems that this problem only happen to graphic not console.....so strange......

I contacted my friend who uses Acer TM6291 with openSuse 10.3. He has the same problem, can't adjust brightness with Fn key on X. He mentioned about using X11 ver 7.3 which apparently used by Slackware. Is it because there's a flaw in X11 7.3? Because I'm sure know, it's not intel driver's fault.

I read the intel man page, and I found LVDS for backlight. Does that have anything to do with the brightness? if so, how do I use it in xorg.conf? I read the xorg.conf and I found nothing about LVDS.
