Since I'm using Slackware for my work and really appreciate it, I'd like to support it by buying an official 13.37 DVD (and 14.0 also, once it gets released).
Until two years ago, there was Ikarios, where you could buy various Linux and BSD install media, and if I remember correctly, Slackware was also on offer. Sadly, Ikarios is no more.
Any French (european) user here knows what's the best way to purchase an official Slackware DVD? I thought I might ask before ordering at the Slackware store in the US, where I fear some significant delay.
Of course, I'll check the really vital stuff (t-shirts, beer openers, baseball cap) later
My DVD subscription is shipped from the US to my home in the Netherlands, some shipping cost is involved but with the dollar to euro conversion rate it is really not a bad price to pay for a (roughly) yearly shipment.
Plus I know that this way, the profits will all go to people involved with Slackware ()Pat's family and the folks that run the Store) instead of some el-cheapo who downloads the ISOs and burns them (I do not count that as "official DVD").
Thanks for your quick replies. I tried to find the 13.37 DVD in the store, but unfortunately there are only preorders for 14.0 available. If anybody knows where I can still buy a 13.37 DVD, I'd be glad.
I have a subscription from the Slackware store shipped to Norway. Sure it costs a little more with postage but in all honesty I'd happily pay even more.
If you really fine the postage excessive I'd buy locally but make a donation for the full cost on the Slackware store.
As a side note if Pat happens to read this. Could we get recurring donations, e.g monthly, yearly or following each release?
Well, none of that money will go to Slackware. OSdisc.com will be happy to eat your money but you might just as well burn your own DVD copy then.
Eric
Exactly, I am not sure why anyone would buy from them. If you don't have funds to support Slackware, you're better off buying a blank DVD and downloading Slack - it's cheaper and quicker. If you can afford some support, then Slackware webiste/store and/or individual contributors' websites are the places to visit. Why on earth would you want to give your money to somebody else?!
i've bought from the online store t-shirt, mouse pad, sticker, case pad, bottle opener and also there is discrete donation, shipping to France was pretty fast(1week).

I guess it depends on the timing. When you store order overlaps with a new release, it may take time.
I generally download and burn my own slackware dvds, and make a donation equivalent to the cost of the dvd set on every release, in order to maximize my contribution to the project.
