boot-up stalling at ide1

Hi guys. I have a question about the Slackware boot up. I have Slackware 10.1 instaled on a Toshiba Laptop, and everything works great. I recently upgraded to the 2.6.11 testing kernel Slackware provides in Current. It works fine, but when it boots it gets to checking for the IDE drives and when it gets to IDE1 (CD/DVD) it stalls there for about 30 to 40 seconds and then continues. Ive added compact to lilo and that seems to have helped a bit, but stills stalls on IDE1. Any ideas? Thanks.

I don't know your exact issue, or what the kernel provided in /testing is compiled with, but I believe there is an actual 'Toshiba Laptop' option in the kernel config (although this is probably unrelated). Have you tried using a custom compiled one rather than the provided one?

The kernel provided in testing is 2.6.11 (not sure what revision, since that's all it says for the kernel package). Ive also tried a custom kernel ( 2.6.11.8 ). I also tried installing other distros (Ubuntu, Archlinux) to see if the problem is still there. The problem still shows up with those other distros. I think it might be an issue with the whole 2.6 line, since this does not happen when I use a 2.4 kernel. Guess I have to take the good with the bad huh?
