automatically connecting dhcpcd?

Hey all, I'm just wondering if anyone can help me get dhcpcd to automatically connect on startup, rather than me forced to enter the terminal to do so.

Running "netconfig" as root will allow you to enable DHCP.

it would be better to edit /etc/rc.d/rc.inet1.conf and put ""yes"" in the USE_DHCP field that you applies.

Well, that is what netconfig does, but OK.

netconfig forces you to start from scratch.

Naturally netconfig was run on installation. I checked that file, and "yes" was already set.

The problem was that I had to manually go to the command line, su to root, and run dhcpcd, often multiple times, to get it connected.

However, I seemed to have eliminated this by upgrading to the 2.6 kernel, so thanks anyways.

Then the 2.4 kernel seems to have some problems with it. Why not try find out the problem rather than upgrade to a new kernel?

Sounds like a waste of time.

Why play around trying to get the outdated kernel to work when you can update to the latest? It would probably be quicker compiling 2.6.x than trying to track down the current problem anyway.

For me it's not. And for me, I used netconfig just to get an idea of how /etc/rc.d/rc.inet1.conf should look like (I was a *complete* newbie at that time).

Anyway, I think the 2.4 kernels are stable & mature enough, and that I would rather look into the problem or live with it than to upgrade to 2.6.

Because this works. It seems to me, that I found the problem; it's the kernel.

Isn't this what choice is all about anyways?

Well, you're the thread starter, so... yeah, I think not everyone has to read kernel source. I don't have much experience with dhcp, so I can't say anything much here.
