I'm really getting anoyed with slackware at the moment, every time i go someplace i have to run a script to configure the wireless network. for example, i go to the coffee shop(rude awakening) and to connect i have to run ./rude containing
and when i go someplace new i have to boot xubuntu, get the network configuration and write a new script(or cp old new&&vim new). also is wont automaticaly pick up the nameservers so i have to go to xubuntu connect then run cat /etc/resolve.conf >> /media/slack/etc/resolve.conf
Ive tried using KWifiManager, and control center. the only successful way to connect to anything is how i described above.
and forget trying to connect to my stepdads network at home, it's got a wpa code on it. i dont know how to connect through slackware, and xubuntu hangs or refuses to connect.
i figured out that its part of slack. i got it from http://packages.slackware.it/. but i just discovered even though its getting the ip address and route now, its still not getting the nameserver. is there a universal nameserver i can get to from any isp anywhere on the net? or is there some way to get it to pick it up? arround here search nc.rr.com works sometimes, but half the time i could be on an embark dsl connection.
You can configure all of those settings in wicd. If you need to put in a static dns, try opendns.org. Their nameservers are in the lower right corner of their home page.
