alsa messes up after each reboot

each time i start up, alsa loads alright, but when i try to play zsnes, i get a message about alsa lib something /dev/snd/pnm'something': permission denied or device or resource busy

not sure why this happens, but if i run alsaconf and reconfigure my sound card, it works fine, but i don't want to have to do this at each time i start slack

i've tried reinstalling alsa, same problem, my card is intel 8x0 series, slack 9.1, kernel 2.4.22

please help

as root you need to give your user the proper permission to access the sound device............also give your user permission the use the /dev/mixer and /dev/dsp

I'm not sure at all if this would help but try to run chmod 666 /dev/snd/pnm... this should fix a permission denied problem if that is the case, also make sure you do this as root.
