Ah, and here are the further updates:

Code:
Thu Nov 17 20:02:33 UTC 2022

kde/kconfig-5.100.1-x86_64-1.txz: Upgraded.
kde/plasma-framework-5.100.1-x86_64-1.txz: Upgraded.
We are all obviously in different timezones , though technically me and Pat are in Central Standard Time, you are in France - but the timezone in the changelog is UTC.

This week in KDE: less-rage-inducing error messages in Discover
Nate. November 18, 2022.
This week I’d like to highlight a particular 15-minute bug that got fixed: When Discover shows you significant error messages, they now take the form of normal dialogs rather than tiny little overlays at the bottom of the screen that disappear after a few seconds. And it should now show you fewer un-actionable error messages in general too! These major improvements were contributed by Jakub Narolewski and Aleix Pol Gonzalez, and will show up in Plasma 5.27. Thanks guys! ..........

A few minor problems with KDE-5. All have been researched, but I have yet to find working solutions.

First, can't turn off kwallet. Yes, I know the procedure and have even edited the configuration file, but kde keeps returning the "permission denied" error.

Second, it won't play the log-in audio, but does play the log-out audio. This is apparently a bug going back to February of this year. Again, no solution found.

Third, for years I've been running a old ms-windows dictionary in WINE. Still works as it should in Xfce, but not in kde-5. The error is, "execvp: No such file or directory found." However, if I configure the launcher to run it in a terminal, it will work.

Any ideas appreciated.

Edit in: Make that four.
This no longer works when in kde5.

Have you tried this? :
- Open kwalletmanager5
- Settings / Configure kwallet
- Uncheck "Enable the KDE wallet subsystem"

Another workaround I found:
Edit : /usr/share/dbus-1/services/org.kde.kwalletd5.service
And comment the line:
Code:
-Exec=/usr/bin/kwalletd5
+#Exec=/usr/bin/kwalletd5

Yes, as I said, I know the procedure, and that was the first thing I tried.

You could try to comment those lines in /etc/pam.d/sddm if you are logging in with sddm

Code:
$grep wallet /etc/pam.d/sddm
-auth optional pam_kwallet5.so
-password optional pam_kwallet5.so use_authtok
-session optional pam_kwallet5.so auto_start

While there is likely also a bug involved, there is a problem in KDE with Pulseaudio and it's high level of latency that may enter the mix.

Examples:

If I open SystemSettings > Audio and select Test, stock with Pulseaudio "Front Left" is truncated to just "...Left" while "Front Right" and subsequent "Front Left" test operate as they should.

With either Pure Alsa or Pipewire replacing Pulse, nothing gets truncated, at least on my Main machine. I tried editing both test sounds to omit "Front" as a test but keeping the filename and with normal Pulseaudio setup the first instance of "Front Left" as just "Left" gets entirely omitted on the first try but also subsequently returns to function. My guess is that latency is involved but not the whole story.

Pure Alsa or Pipewire (including pipewire-pulse) solves that issue for me and "Login" plays normally upon startup. YMMV but enabling Pipewire even with pipewire-pulse, thanks to PV, is rather trivial to find out if it works for you with your audio hardware. Best wishes.
