After using alsaconf, I lose sound on a reboot

If I run alsaconfig after starting X, then I can hear audio just fine.
I'm running Slack 9.1, and my sound card is SB Live! Value.

Here's the output of lsmod:
Code:
bash-2.05b# /sbin/lsmod

It's the same before and after I run alsaconf. /etc/modules.conf doesn't change both before and after I run alsaconf.

alsamixer is the same before and after (all the pcm etc. settings are up and I get no sound before running alsaconf).

Anyone have any ideas? TIA

You need to use 'alsactl store' to save the settings. After you get it set like you want it run that command as root.
