Adding programs to menu

I want to add a few new programs to my main applications menu on slackware 9.1. How do i do this?

I know how to add icons to the desktop, but they are taking up too much space and I want to add them to the start menu...

Hi - i am using slackware 9.1. with gnome 2.4. - i seached through the manual with ' menu' keyword and got a long list of technical stuff that did not help..

I can drag / drop icon from the desktop onto the panel - but i want to add the application to the proper category in the start menu to save space.

I thought gnome had a graphicaly menu editor, at least my default gnome install did. However, I can't remember where it was and I use Fluxbox now.
