A problem with the sound card (Slack 10.2)

The problem is that the media files are all played faster than they should be. All the media players have this problem, so I think the real problem is the sound card(Avance AC'97) configuration. I read some manpages, but could not find a way to edit the configuration. I've read about modules.conf, but I didn't find what should I put in.

Thanks in advance.

Try recompiling the kernel, adding support for all AC97 PCI sound devices (both ALSA & OSS)..?

But why? The sound is ok and I can hear it. The problem is that it's faster than it should be.

Of course I have tried alsa. I used alsaconf to detect the card. How exactly should I rebuil the kernel to be able to play audio properly?
