2.6.x kernel question

hey, all these howto and docs for the 2.6 kernel all talk about adding a /sys folder and adding it to the fstab....

i am running the 2.6 kernel fine without it... is there a reason or benefits on creating this folder?

thanks

It may be useful for diagnostics, but I have no idea how you would
decipher the contents. Here is a sample concerning my usb printer.

The output of "ls -l /sys/class/usb/lp0":

total 0
-r--r--r-- 1 root root 4096 Apr 4 09:00 dev
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 57 Apr 4 09:00 device -> ../../../devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:07.2/usb1/1-2/1-2:1.0/
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 30 Apr 4 09:00 driver -> ../../../bus/usb/drivers/usblp/

And the content of "/sys/class/usb/lp0/dev" is:
180:0

At least "du /sys" returnes "0", so no hard disk space is being used.

I use udev to manage my /dev, and /sys is needed by udev to function.
