Kernel question (about kernel patches)

if i have kernel 2.6.3 suorce and i want to upgrade to 2.6.5
1) do i have to apply to 2.6.4 patch and then the 2.6.5 patch or
2)straight apply the 2.6.5 patch to 2.6.3 source ??

And in general when i want to upgrade from a.b.c to a.b.f and i have the a.b.c source do i need to apply all the patches to till the a.b.f patch or i can just apply the a.b.f patch ????

one patch at a time up to the desired patch. i.e. a.b.c to a.b.f would go a.b.c to a.b.d to a.b.e then to a.b.f.
good luck.
