I downloaded and compiled 2.6.0 on my 9.1 setup. Previously I had an install of the "vanilla" 9.1 iso.. not -current, just plain old 9.1
My onboard LAN connection requires the 3c2000 driver which I don't see as a kernel option. I've compiled the module and it works just fine under 2.4.x but not under 2.6.0. I have an ABit IS7 mobo which came with a gigabit LAN port (only supposed to be on the IS7G but there was a run manufacturered with the gigabit lan ports instead of the 10/100 by accident. I got lucky.) Does anyone else have this mobo that uses another driver that works?
I believe I have the newer version of module-init-tools which are required for 2.6 but when I compile the module for 3c2000 it winds up with a .o file instead of a .ko file. Is that my issue?
The 2.6.0 source is under my /home account and I did copy over the .bzimage and system.map to my /boot dir. 2.6.0 works fine, just no internet connectivity because it won't allow me to.
So, do you think I have a module-init-tools problem or is it looking at the wrong kernel headers because I don't have the 2.6.0 files in my /usr/src/linux dir?
there might be other probelms but it's probably also looking at the wrong kernel headers. When compiling the module, you have to tell where the kernel source tree is - usually with an option for configure. If not, you can create a symlink /usr/src/linux to your source tree.
I tried the symlink, didn't work. I tried recompiling and just made a few of the other drivers as modules and then tried to insert them one at a time to see which one worked.
Well the sk98lin modules works perfectly.. so.. good 'nuff
