2.6.6 Kernel size

Hey slackers,

After a couple of days of trying, I have my new 2.6.6 kernel installed and running! I'm not seeing all much of a performance improvement, but i'm confident that I can decrease the size of my new kernel some more (i've only built it twice so far).

I was wondering, what your 2.6.6 kernel sizes are? I'm running a pent 4, ide system, with no scsi, firewire, usb, sound, or hot-swappable decives compiled in.

Is the goal still to keep the kernel under a meg? Here's mine:

-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 1388815 Jun 8 11:29 bzImage-2.6.6-2

Thanks for all the help!

mines actually quite big, but you have to remember your not (for most people) going to
get that kernel size down to them small sizes like you would with the older kernels ..
unless you actually go ahead and compile a kernel with the absolute bare minimums
to boot the computer .. there is millions of more code in the newer kernel as opposed to
the older kernels, so its naturually going to be bigger ... when i had 2.4.x running i was
around 800k, so its just how the ball rolls
so i wouldn't really think its a goal to keep it under a meg .. the goal really is to compile
what you need to have your system work properly .. thats how i look at it
