how to know size of kernel


I have installed Redhat linux 9.0 on my intel pentium 4 machine.

How do i know whether the kernel is 32 bit or 64 bit. Can somebody tell me the size of the kernel
or the way to know the size.

it will be 32 bit. you would know yourself if it wasn't the case. the kernel itself will be sitting in /boot. just look at the file size there.

I am able to see only kernel.h file and not the actual file.
I am new to Linux , so could u pls help.
and if i upgrade my CPU to 64 bit will this Redhat Linux 9.0 support as 64 bit

the file to look for in the /boot is usually vmlinuz
check the folder with 'ls -lh' (My kernel is about 2.1M)

if u upgrade tour system to 64 bit u need to rebuild your kernel to support the correct Processor family. And a lot of other good configurations too!
