2.6.5 module -post kernel install questions

I was able to get 2.6.5 to cmpile and install on my slackware 9.1 machine. My problem is that now I cannot get system to pick up network card. I went in and recompiled the kernel, made sure to select the network card drivers I needed and remade the kernel but still nothing.
Of course I asume that I have done something wrong and was wondering if someone could point me in the right directions [this is my 1st kernel compile and install]
