Talking [SOLVED] : Move my Home folder out in an external Local server

Each time I'm moving my new files and directories from my local slackware PC to my NAS (Linux based) in the LAN.
This NAS is 24/7 online and I can access it from the net.More than that it's backed up every day.

I was thinking of making my home directory directly in this NAS.
I didn't made a separate partition for my Home during the installation of slackware in the PC.

Umm, is there a question in that?

The Unix world has had home directories on NFS mounts for a looong time. Normally with NIS or something with an automounted home directory.

Works pretty well as long as the network is running smoothly.

Yes I want to know how to do it.
I already have 2 NFS folders from this NAS automatically mounted in my PC.
But I don't know how to procede to move my local existing home folder to the NAS.
And change the default folder to store the new documents created.
And to store the new downloaded documents

Well, I'd just make /home a remote mount point itself. If you do that, just rename /home to /oldhome, create a new /home directory, and edit /etc/fstab to mount the NAS directory on /home. Then move all of your stuff in /oldhome to /home and you're done.

Very similar to moving /home to another partition.

1. BACKUP your home directory.

2. On the server make a directory for your PC home directory and share it.

3. Mount the server share on the PC (/mnt/tmp perhaps) and copy the contents of home to it.

4. Umount the server share, it's no longer needed.

4. Delete the contents your home directory on the PC (you DID make a backup right?).

5. Then mount the share as your home directory.

6. Be sure to edit fstab to reflect the change.
