Is it safe to move this folder from home to elsewhere?

Hi,

I recently setup a desktop with 3 different user accounts.

While in the main user account, I downloaded the most recent hplip "run" program (hplip 3.9.8.run) to my home directory.

After completing the installation, I noticed a hplip folder in home that was previously not there. It has many hplip files (6.2 MB) in it and I assume is required for proper hplip usage. Thus, I did not delete it.

My Question:
Is it safe to relocate this folder from home to another location, perhaps somewhere in /

Or should I leave it in home?

Thanks.

Mods, I didn't know the proper forum in which to post this thread. If this is not the proper forum, then kindly relocate it. Thanks.

When you run a program, it search it in $PATH varibale. If you move another location, include that in PATH variable.

Thanks

Usually run file extracts its contents and installs all the components in the desired locations. So usually you can remove unpacked directory. You can remove also original run file.

I don't know hplip run file. I suppose it works as I described above but I'm not sure.

So I suggest you to perform simple experiment: rename unpacked directory and test if hplip still works. If yes, remove unnecessary directory -- if no, restore it's original name.

Very simple.. move it and see if it works. If it doesn't, move it back.

Hmmm...yeah...sounds like a simple enough experiment. So if I rename it and it doesn't work, then I know I need to leave it where it is.

Thanks.
