intel 855gm instalation


Hi all

i have an acer tm660 wiyh a centrinum cpu and a intel 855 grapic card that isn't recognized by xfree.

i have donwloaded from intel site a driver in rpm format, but it happens that it fails in one dependancy "/bin/sh", and i have confirm the existence of this file.

help?

btw I use slackware 9.1

back again some in IRC has told me to download the drivers from de Intel website, i have downloaded and install them, now now the X doesn't work and it gives me the following error:

yep... that is the problem with those intel-drivers... got the same.

Your problem isn't that your card isn't recognized by xfree... you just don't have enough virtual memory.

Google for 855patch written by Christiaan Zietz if I remember it correctly. It is a small workaround for your bios. Try it. I got Slackware running on my dell 500m, gentoo worked. Debian Sid works...

You don't need those intel-drivers. Take the 2.6 kernel drivers for dri. It works fine for me. Unless you want to play UT2k4 with your laptop.

hummm

I still wasn't able to successfully compile the kernel 2.6.3, now i'm trying to install the new xfree 4.4.0, it has the i810 drivers included, after that i will try to compile the new kernel (patch way), if that doesn´t work, i will try the patch that you mentioned.
