I am working on some of the Intel audio drivers. Could you post the output of lspci? What I need:

lspci
lspci -vn -s ##:##.## (where ##:##.## is the pci address of your audio controller, usually 00:1b.0).
head /proc/asound/card0/codec*

This will at least tell me what the sub device id is and what the codec is. From there, I can look to see where in the code it may be broken.

Also, post the alsa version (cat /proc/asound/version).

Thanks.

hi Grue Master

hey thanx a lot for ur concern and suggestions. Well i tried ur way

thus PCI address of my audio controller is 00:1b.0 as you said.

it shows my sound card there configured sound card number 0
driver as snd-hda-intel

see my mixer is currently Kmix .

when i log on to suse there is no logon sound even.

whenever i try to play any mp3 song with amarok or any other player it gets enqued in the playlist but there is no sound.

I just looked up your board info on Intel's site. If the information you sent me is correct, you have the Realtek ALC860 audio codec, which just so happens to be the driver I'm working on now (more for the ALC883 work, but same code base).

I will be working on alsa driver issues all week, so this may be something I'll need to check anyways. I'll let you know what I find and post a fix as soon as I can. You will need a newer version of alsa, I can tell you that much. Don't bother downloading from alsa-project.org yet, though. There are several bugs in the release code that are fixed in the cvs tree, but no new stable tarballs. I'll post a sneak peek at 1.0.11a when I get it ready.

You will be happy to know that I found the problem and will be pushing a fix for this soon. I found that the subdevice id (8086:e213) for your particular system is not in the driver currently. I added it here and tested it on a 915GLVGL (similar to your system), and it worked fine.

Just to verify your system config, could you post the output from "lspci -s 0:1b -vn"? I want to make sure your device id matches up.
