Lubuntu sound without pulse audio?

Can you have sound on Lubuntu 14.10 without Pulse Audio ?
I tried to install the esound sound server using
apt-get install esound
and all I got was Pulse Audio installed.
That's no good for me. Is there any way to get
sound on Lubuntu 14.10 without Pulse Audio ?

Hi...

You can but I'm seeing conflicting reports of dependencies being broken trying to remove it. I'm not sure if they're true. See this page for instructions on how to remove it. You can just use ALSA and nothing else. However, proceed with caution.

Regards...

Lubuntu sound without pulse audio ?

Eliminated Pulse Audio using Synaptic, and ended up
with no sound at all, dispite all attempt so get
Alsa going again.
Lived without sound on Lubuntu for a month or so,
but eventually re-installed Lubuntu 4.1.
Now I have sound without Pulse Audio and I'm very
careful not to download anything that will bring
Pulse Audio with it. But no sound on Youtube yet.
Anyway, this is probably as good as it gets, so
this problem is now "Solved".

Hi...

I'm not sure if Pulseaudio would be involved but do the instructions here help?

Also, is this case with other browsers or Vimeo?

Regards...

NO! Don't do this!! After purging my PULSEAUDIO ardvark71, your instructions tell me to reinstall it?!?!?

Code:
The following extra packages will be installed:
  libcanberra-gtk3-0 libcanberra-gtk3-module libgtkmm-3.0-1 pulseaudio
  pulseaudio-module-x11
Suggested packages:
  pavumeter paman paprefs pulseaudio-module-raop pulseaudio-esound-compat
The following NEW packages will be installed:
  libcanberra-gtk3-0 libcanberra-gtk3-module libgtkmm-3.0-1 pavucontrol
  pulseaudio pulseaudio-module-x11
0 upgraded, 6 newly installed, 0 to remove and 0 not upgraded.
Need to get 869 kB/1,530 kB of archives.
I WANT TO BURN PULSE AUDIO TO THE GROUND!

I am sorry to sound like I am ranting but YES! I AM! I just spent the better part of an entire weekend diagnosing an audio issue in my Kubuntu 14.05 distro.

My simple solution is;
$sudo apt-get remove pulseaudio

I don't give a crap what "they" say about it, this crappy piece of software has been around long enough. It conflicts with my hardware and apparently a lot of others. I am to point of switching distros, if I EVER have to deal with it again. My advice is drop Pulse Ausio and go straight ALSA or just no sound at all would even be better than have this on my HD.

Thank you for enduring my torment...

Not a problem, I've been there, too. At the time I made that post above, I didn't know if "pavucontrol" was associated with PulseAudo or not, hence my statement: "I'm not sure if Pulseaudio would be involved..."

Regards...
